Route difficulty: ⭐️⭐️
Run or hike the Puako Petroglyphs Archaeological Preserve, narrated by the resort's own Ka'iulani Blankenfeld, Director of Hawaiian Culture.
Route begins at the back of The Fairmont Orchid, on the path along the shore - between the pool and ocean. Head along the shore and beach, to the Petroglyphs, and back to the hotel along paved roads.
This walk is approximately 1 mile round trip and takes 1 to 2 hours at a leisurely pace due to the terrain of the Kiawe forest, and how much time you explore.
Note: Good walking shoes are highly recommended for walking through the unpaved paths to the petroglyphs. There is little to no shade on this route. Please prepare water, sunscreen, and hat as needed.
If you are not comfortable going all the way to the Petroglyph field, there are examples of petroglyphs at the entrance to the Petroglyph field path.
