A local favorite. Located in Kalopa Native Forest State Park, this short hike brings you through a native Hawaiian rainforest.
Pick up an informational brochure at the trailhead and check out the 24 stations identified along the hike, each of the sections of Kalopa’s pristine forest contains mostly native (endemic or indigenous) trees, shrubs, ferns, and other forest life.
Driving directions: Follow the signs mauka (upslope) off the main highway (19) about 10 minutes south of Honoka’a on the Hamakua coast.
Note: Do bring bug spray because mosquitoes like rainforest as much as we do.
